New York Fashion Week – Markarian
Markarian
Designer Alexandra O’Neill chose a private presentation in her spacious studio on East 20th to show her highly intricate spring 2024 line of delicate airy dresses with all kinds of embroidery and pearl detail. If the handwork from India looked like it took many hours and many highly trained hands – it did. One pale grass green gown with a corset style bustier and cap sleeves stayed tight over the waist then went full volume from the hip – shapely, but still soft. There were a number of fit n’ flare cocktail shapes, her specialty, though O’Neill knows her way around a flattering pencil sheath silhouette, too. With some of the best beading embellishment in the biz, our favorites, amidst the beatific candy colored pastels, were the white pieces: one midi dress dotted with pearls, another festooned with winding avocado green vines and little pink buds. New world shapes with old world finesse make Markarian the most romantic collection of spring 2024.
